If you’re not aware of the term Galentine’s, we’ve got you. It’s an unofficial holiday that has gained a lot of popularity throughout the years, and is usually celebrated on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day, however some women like to celebrate it on the 14th, especially if most of their friends are single. It’s about women celebrating women and friendship, and it gained popularity after Amy Poehler used it on her show Parks and Rec. After the episode aired, a lot of women saw the idea as the perfect opportunity to get together with friends, and celebrate friendship. Whether your friends are all scattered around the country or you all happen to be neighbors, you should definitely plan to celebrate Galentine’s Day 2021 together, and we’ve got a few tips on how you should do it.
First, choose the venue
After the pandemic hit, a lot of people had to move around to quarantine safely. Some went back home to their families and some stayed where they were. If the whole Coronavirus situation taught us anything, it’s that we can all stay virtually connected, and so distance doesn’t have to play a part in cancelling your Galentine’s Day celebration! If your girlfriends are all located far from each other, schedule a Zoom session that works well for all of you. If you’re lucky enough to have your group close and live in an area where there is no lockdown in place, then choose whose house you can all fit comfortably in while still trying to respect some of the social distancing guidelines. We recommend using a backyard or a roomy apartment that fits you all comfortably!
Next, choose the theme and decorate
Usually, Galentine’s is all about girl bosses who like to celebrate each other’s accomplishments together. We love using the same pink/red, hearts theme to celebrate this holiday, but you can definitely go for whatever represents your group the best! If you’re all Parks and Rec fans, you have to include some Leslie Knope themed decor pieces to truly honor the Galentine’s Day inventor herself. You can get some cheap decor items at any dollar store, but if you want something that can last you a long time (if you’re hosting) then check out these acrylic placemats and decorative trays that will not only help you set the most beautiful table for your Galentine’s get together, but will soon become a staple whenever you’re hosting any events. Add a rectangular fresh Rosebox to your table that can act as a stunning centerpiece that clearly goes with the Galentine’s theme, and you’re all set! If you’re celebrating remotely, then you can all choose themed Zoom backgrounds that can help you all get in the mood to have some fun!
Then, choose the food + drink and entertainment
Let’s be honest, almost everyone’s favorite part of a girlfriend get together is the wine, so this is a must for any Galentine’s celebration! Whether it’s rose, white, or red, that’s up to you and your girls! (Or why not all three?) You can also decide on a themed cocktail for the night, like a strawberry mimosa. If you’re all dining together, we recommend going for an easy option for the food, either a light charcuterie board that will look beautiful on your decorated table, or go casual and order some pizza delivery! You can also celebrate remotely by having everyone create their own version of the cocktail you decide on, and turn the Galentine’s night into a mixology contest or see who can make the best mini cheese board presentation on camera! You can also have tons of fun by playing some interactive Zoom games, like the ones we found here. You can also get together and watch your favorite chick flicks or your favorite girl boss movies like Legally Blonde!
And there you have it, some tips to make your Galentine’s Day celebration one to remember. At the end of the day, what matters is celebrating with your friends and having fun, but using these tips can take it to the next level.
